One more Easter Wine Pick from Amusée

Oliver and Fred Peterson 05 Syrah IIOkay, okay…so I came across another Easter Wine Pick, if you’re looking for something spectacular to go along with either Grilled Lamb or Ham on your holiday table.
The Peterson, Dry Creek Valley, 2005 Syrah.  Delish!  Fred Peterson of Peterson Winery, is one of THE coolest Winemakers in ALL of California.  A cool dude that resides up on his little humble abode amidst Bradford Mountain, is one of the few and the proud.  He makes a whole slew of wines to enjoy from his down and dirty Sangiovese, lite and lively Sauvignon Blanc, his supple yet tobacco-ey Pinot Noir to his earthy driven Zinfandel – he’s the one I go to when I’m looking for a ‘no funny business’ kind of wine from California.  His slogan:  No Soul-less Wines!  suits him well. In each of these wines, there’s always a little bit of Fred.  And to tell you the truth… these wines are ALWAYS a part of my cellar.  So, if you haven’t had his wines, get out there and check ’em out!
This Syrah that I’m drinking tonite from his portfolio has bits of tar, smoke, violet and dark licorice on the nose.  Alluring, with notes of lilac and dark berry fruit.  The palate is velvety soft enough to ‘make friends’ with your Lamb Loin or Chop, yet sturdy enough to hold up to the smoke and charred bits of the grill.  The nose gives you just a hint of smoke, yet its seducing feminine notes has you wanting to dig in!  Truly expressive of its Bradford Mountain home, this wine is a fabulous pick for your Easter Dinner Table.  And, I might have to look to see if I have another bottle here, so I can drink it myself with our dinner tomorrow!
In Minneapolis, you can find Fred Peterson’s wines only at one retail location: Surdyk’s Liquor Store, downtown Minneapolis.  Bummer, I know.  But, that’s just the way it goes.  If you’re reading from another part of the country, I know he’s distributed in many cities nationwide, please check with your local retailer.
And once you find you’ve fallen in love with Fred’s wines like I have, you can get them sent to your home by joining Friends of Fred!
Shmappy ShmEaster from Amusée, and oh yeah…Oliver too (holding the bottle!)

  1. dang – that’s a handsome kitty…meow! (And, Peterson’s wines are amazing too!) Fred has such a cool, little operation in Sonoma – which I was fortunate enough to tour a couple years back. Really neat guy and very good wine.

  2. I just got back from Napa and Sonoma last Saturday. I wished I had known of Peterson. Looks like they are a nice balance between the lager wineries and 4000 case producers. Had a great trip though.
